It is a challenge for a lot of local authorities to keep up with new transport technologies and make efficient decisions on them. One of the goals of the A.R.T.-Forum project is to gain more insight on the economical and social impact of new technologies such as autonomous road transport. The partners involved to reach this goal are Autodelen.net (Belgium), University of Aalborg (Denmark) and Taxistop (Belgium).
Therefore, Taxistop launches a questionnaire towards students to get to know what an efficient transport system looks like for students and the (potential) added value of new technologies to their lives. In a very short term students experience big shifts in their lives when it comes to their travel behavior. The shift from high school to university and from university to work life. These changes can all have a big impact on the transport options students choose when going to classes, but also later in their lives, when they start working. This is why it is important to keep up with their mobility needs when a new technology pops up.
The questionnaire contains questions on their daily travels as students and their frequent travels to their student jobs or in their spare time. What thresholds do they encounter and which solutions would be valuable to solve these thresholds? Subsequently to that, there are also questions about the impact of COVID-19 on their view on several transport options and about the impact of autonomous vehicles on their current travels.
What better way to gain new and rich insights than doing research? Well, doing research on a transnational level. This questionnaire will also be send out in the university of Aalborg (Denmark), Ostfalia University of Applied Science (Germany), the University of Bremen (Germany), the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) and several other universities in Flanders (Ghent, Hasselt, Howest, Mechelen). By doing this, we hope to get international insights on the mobility needs of students and their views on the future of mobility.
The survey will be active until the end of July 2020. The results will be launched in September 2020 during the European Week of Mobility.
